bathroom pictures

bathroom pictures is a photo series studying the liminality of the bathroom. bathrooms are places created for momentary use; a place to enter, use for its intended purpose, and then leave. each bathroom is decorated and designed differently, from public spaces to private ones. through photographing people in bathrooms they are using temporarily (public bathrooms or school and dorm bathrooms) or in a more permanent space (their home bathrooms or frequented public ones), I am looking at how people exist in these places. bathrooms are an interesting niche in the world because they are out of the public eye, therefore out of the realm of being publicly perceived. there are no sociological or societal rules or norms for how to act, so people are allowed to behave as themselves instead of performing for others. the sense of timelessness that the bathroom evokes is embraced through stylized clothing and bathrooms selected for their appearances to emphasize the utter liminality that occurs when, and outside, shooting.
